Good things grow when we connect.

For the past 18 years, I’ve worked with Polyface Farm, and in that time, my inbox and voicemail have been filled with the same kinds of messages.

Farmers looking for land. Landowners looking for help. Folks searching for a good farm dog. Questions about planting, animal husbandry, farm stays and farm jobs. People wondering how to better support their local farmers, or simply looking for a way to get their hands back in the dirt through a community or school garden.

After a while, I started thinking… what if there were one place where we could all connect? Somewhere to post what we need, share what we have, ask questions, exchange ideas, and find others who care about the land as much as we do.

I talk with hundreds of farmers from all over the world every week — Australia, South Africa, Costa Rica, Colorado, California, and everywhere in between. And one thing has become abundantly clear: we’re stronger when we’re connected. Farmers supporting farmers isn’t just a nice idea. It’s how we learn, grow, adapt, and keep going.

That’s the kind of community I want to build. The ultimate community.

So, what if we brought back the old bulletin board at your local co-op? You know the one… covered in handwritten notes, business cards, tear-off phone numbers, and coffee stains. A place where neighbors helped neighbors, someone always knew someone who had what you needed, and a simple conversation could lead to something wonderful.

That’s CommPost.

A modern twist on that old community bulletin board. A gathering place for farmers, landowners, growers, makers, earth stewards, neighbors, and kindred spirits. A place to find farm jobs, land, livestock, resources, farm stores, community gardens, and answers to the questions we didn’t even know we needed to ask.

Because at the end of the day, no farms, no food. And as Wendell Berry so beautifully reminded us, “the soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all.”

We’re busy behind the scenes, sorting our sticky notes, making connections, and dreaming up what’s possible.

Let’s build something together.
